The book contains fresh data on the history, culture, literature and press of the Kazakhs in the Astrakhan region. The content of the newspapers "Kedey Tili" of the early 20th century and the modern "Ak Arna" are analyzed, and the life and cultural life of Kazakh peasants and fishermen are described. Archival materials on various infectious diseases that were rampant in the Astrakhan region and the Inner (Bokei) Horde of that time were also used.
